Here is IOS explained in point form:

• An IOS is a complete operating system
• The Wii contains many IOS's
• A game (or any program on the Wii) will run using one specific IOS
• Only one IOS is running at one time
• The System Menu is an IOS and is shutdown before running a game
• IOS's are not aware of each other
• Different IOS's contain different capabilities. ie like supporting a mic or other hardware
